Food to Live Green Powders Recalled in U.S. Due to Possible Salmonella Contamination

A recall of Food to Live products is affecting several green powders sold across the United States after a possible contamination with Salmonella was detected, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported.

Lexunder Inc., a Brooklyn, New York-based company operating under the Food to Live brand, voluntarily initiated the recall of products distributed directly to consumers and businesses.

The affected items were available through foodtolive.com, foodinbulk.com, and other online markets, so buyers from different parts of the country may have some of the involved packages.

So far, no illnesses related to this recall have been reported, but authorities recommended checking the products before consuming them and paying special attention to their lot codes.

FDA detected Salmonella in a Food to Live sample

The recall began after the FDA notified the company that a sample of Food to Live’s Organic Superfood Blend, 8-ounce presentation, lot SO-77820, had tested positive for Salmonella.

The sample was collected from a commercial establishment, and so far, it has not been determined how the contamination occurred. The company suspended production and distribution while the investigation continues.

Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. The consequences can be more severe in young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.

In rare cases, the bacteria can enter the bloodstream and cause more serious complications, including arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.

These are the Food to Live powders included in the recall

Among the affected products are Wheat Grass Powder, Organic Spirulina Powder, Organic Algae Powder Blend, Organic Supergrass Powder, and Organic Wheat Grass Powder, marketed in different presentations.

The sizes range from small 2-ounce samples to multiple-pound packs and bulk 55-pound boxes. The involved lots are within the range of SO-72558 to SO-79374, in addition to specific codes.

Also included among the listed codes are VFD/ORG/MORP/B/25, C25051312, and OSP251001. The company clarified that no other product or lot code is included in this alert.

To verify a package, consumers should look for the lot code and expiration date on the back of the packaging, below the nutrition information panel and near the barcode.

What to do if you purchased a product

The recommendation is straightforward: products included in the recall should not be consumed. Those who have one of the affected packages can discard it or return it to the establishment where it was purchased.
