A shocking video shows how several police officers managed to intercept, cut off, subdue and arrest the suspect in the Highland Park shooting which took place during an Independence Day parade and has so far left six people dead and dozens injured.

The suspect in the Highland Park mass shooting has been identified as Robert “Bobby” Crimo III, believed to be 22. He was an aspiring rapper who had posted disturbing videos on social media, among them a rudimentary animation of a shooter being gunned down by police.

Robert Crimo performs as a rapper under the moniker “Awake the Rapper”. His social networks, including a YouTube channel, are full of videos containing mass shooting fantasies, while one also contains a headline that refers to Lee Harvey Oswald, the man who assassinated President John F. Kennedy, The Telegraph explained on Tuesday.

The suspect, who law enforcement authorities initially said was 22 but the FBI says is 21, was taken into custody about seven hours after he allegedly shot six people to death and wounded 36 others from the roof of a store in the Central Avenue of Highland Park, Illinois.

There was a brief chase in a Honda Fit

Police said the suspect used a «high-powered rifle» during the attack, while Highland Park Police Chief Lou Jogmen described him as «very dangerous.» He was arrested shortly before 7:00 p.m. local time after a brief chase with authorities. He was pulled over driving a silver 2010 Honda Fit with Illinois IL license plate DM80653, The Telegraph reported.

A video posted on Twitter shows how at least 10 officers managed to intercept the alleged gunman on the highway, corner him and subdue him. «He is the shooter,» a witness to the dramatic incident was heard exclaiming. No one else was in the vehicle at the time of the arrest.

According to The Telegraph, the suspect is the second of three children who grew up in an Italian-American family in Highland Park, the community where his grandfather was born in 1928. Crimo’s father Bob, 58, is believed to be the owner of a local deli and have once run unsuccessfully for mayor of the town of Highwood, Illinois, near Highland Park, where the shooting took place on Monday.

Bob Crimo appears to be a strong supporter gun rights. On the day of the Uvalde, Texas, school massacre, he is said to have liked a tweet that read: «Protect the 2nd Amendment like your life depended on it.» It seems that he ran for mayor as an Independent, since his campaign was not backed by any political party. His campaign slogan characterized him as «a person of the people,» according to The Telegraph.
