The uncertainty for Gabriela Fleritt’s loved ones began on June 24, the day the earthquakes struck the country and contact was completely lost with four members of the family: Gabriela, her daughter Andrea, and the two young children, Mariano and Sebastián.
The main person leading the search efforts was the actress’s nephew, Eduardo Fleritt.
Through emotional messages on social media, the young man repeatedly asked for public support and requested help at Residencia Las Palmas, a building located near the Macuto parish in La Guaira state, the area has been identified as one of the most affected by the disaster and was where the actress lived.

The desperation of the family grew due to the lack of government assistance at the damaged structure.
Even during Sunday, June 28, Eduardo Fleritt publicly expressed the enormous frustration he felt alongside his father and uncles after noticing that they were among the few people removing collapsed structures.
While a neighboring building had assistance from approximately 100 people and protection from local authorities, at Residencia Las Palmas only eight people were trying to remove heavy blocks using only their hands, teeth, tools, and deep determination.

By that point, the family rescuers had already located Gabriela Fleritt’s oldest grandson, Sebastián, alive. The relatives continued holding onto hope that the other three missing family members had found shelter somewhere in the area to protect themselves from aftershocks.
However, that hope disappeared at midnight when Eduardo officially announced that the bodies of Gabriela, Andrea, and little Mariano had been recovered without vital signs, after confirmation from relatives and neighbors who remained at the scene.
