Trump Reportedly Open to Meeting with Zelensky, Putin, and Erdogan to Advance Peace Talks

According to news agency EFE, the White House confirmed on Monday that Donald Trump would be open to joining a multilateral summit with the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, and Turkey in an effort to advance peace talks between Kyiv and Moscow.
The announcement follows Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s proposal for a four-party meeting at the end of June, during a new round of diplomatic talks in Istanbul involving Ukrainian and Russian representatives.
Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for Trump’s office, stated that the former president “has said he is open to it,” but emphasized that the main goal is “to get Putin and Zelensky at the same table.”
Washington believes that only direct dialogue between the warring parties can create a favorable climate for a negotiated resolution to the conflict.
Turkey Pushes for New Diplomatic Meeting
Erdogan’s proposal aims to leverage Turkey’s ongoing role as a mediator, having hosted several rounds of talks since the full-scale war broke out in February 2022.
Zelensky has reportedly agreed to the meeting, placing the decision squarely in Moscow’s hands regarding its participation.
Meanwhile, a new round of talks between Russian and Ukrainian officials concluded in Istanbul on Monday, though no immediate agreement was reached on Kyiv’s request for a 30-day ceasefire.
However, both delegations announced a humanitarian agreement to exchange prisoners of war who are seriously wounded or ill, as well as captives aged between 18 and 25.
Moscow Sets Conditions for Peace Summit
The agreement was welcomed as a sign of openness in a conflict that has caused thousands of deaths and displaced people on both sides.
Nevertheless, the core positions remain deeply at odds.
According to a memorandum leaked to Russian media, the Kremlin is demanding that Kyiv recognize the annexation of Crimea and four other occupied regions, renounce joining military alliances like NATO, and agree to limit the size of its armed forces.
These conditions have long been unacceptable to Ukraine, which considers the occupation of its territory illegitimate and remains committed to joining Western security structures.
Trump Seeks to Lead Diplomatic Process
When asked about Sunday’s Ukrainian strikes on Russian air and rail infrastructure in the Kursk region, spokesperson Leavitt avoided specific condemnations.
“President Trump’s reaction is that this war must end—it has been brutal on both sides,” she said.
“Too many lives have been lost,” she added, in a somber tone.
With this stance, the White House seeks to position Trump as a balanced figure interested in ending a prolonged and increasingly costly war for the international community.
