Former President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he will delay the 25% tariffs on most imported goods from Mexico by one month.

The decision came after a conversation with Mexico’s president, Trump stated on Truth Social.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick had previously suggested that tariffs on Mexico and Canada would «likely» be postponed.

This marks the second time Trump has delayed the measure since first announcing it in February.

The postponement applies to goods that comply with the trade agreement Trump negotiated with Mexico and Canada during his first term.

Trump reiterated that his administration is working on border security to curb illegal migration and fentanyl trafficking.

His tariff threats have caused market instability and raised concerns among businesses.

Lutnick confirmed that the reciprocal tariffs on countries taxing U.S. exports will go into effect on April 2.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau warned that he expects a trade conflict with the U.S. in the near future.

While Trudeau called the one-month pause a «promising sign,» he insisted that the tariffs remain in place.

«The delay aligns with discussions we’ve had with administration officials,» Trudeau stated.

However, Canada will maintain its retaliatory trade measures as long as U.S. tariffs remain in effect.
