A new round of Social Security payments will arrive this Wednesday, August 19. The payment is for beneficiaries who receive benefits under the regular schedule and have birthdays between the 11th and 20th of any month.

Why it matters: Retired workers received an average monthly benefit of $2,085.98 in July, according to the latest data from the Social Security Administration (SSA).

  • However, each person’s check may be higher or lower than $2,086 because that figure is an average, not a fixed payment for every beneficiary.

In August, the schedule is as follows:

  • August 12: Birthdays from the 1st through the 10th — Paid
  • August 19: Birthdays from the 11th through the 20th
  • August 26: Birthdays from the 21st through the 31st

This means beneficiaries in the second group should watch for their Social Security payment August 19 this Wednesday. After that, the month’s final payment round will remain, scheduled for Wednesday, August 26.

The calendar also follows a different rule for people who began receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997 or who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). In those cases, Social Security is paid on the 3rd and SSI on the 1st, according to the SSA.

If a payment does not arrive on the expected date, the agency recommends allowing three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security.
