According to local media reports, the shooting occurred at approximately 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time, while the Seattle Center was packed with visitors attending the Bite of Seattle festival.
The annual event is one of Seattle’s largest public festivals, attracting residents and tourists to celebrate the city’s diverse food scene.
This year’s festival featured more than 300 food vendors and promotional booths spread throughout the venue.
With thousands of attendees, including many families, the gunfire triggered widespread panic among festivalgoers enjoying the event.
Authorities Continue Investigating the Seattle Festival Shooting
So far, investigators have not determined what prompted the attack or whether the victims were specifically targeted.
The investigation remains active as detectives collect evidence and reconstruct the sequence of events at the Seattle Center.
Emergency crews remained at the scene while coordinating with law enforcement officials.
Authorities are expected to release additional information as the investigation progresses and as they confirm the medical conditions of those injured.
The Seattle festival shooting once again highlights the ongoing issue of gun violence in the United States, where shootings continue to occur in public spaces and at large events.
According to the Gun Violence Archive (GVA), the United States has recorded 268 mass shootings so far this year.
The organization defines a mass shooting as an incident in which four or more people are shot, excluding the alleged shooter.
Those figures underscore the continued frequency of these incidents across the country as authorities work to determine exactly what happened in Seattle.
