The measure was taken after Coast Citrus Distributors initiated a voluntary recall of fresh jalapeños, while federal authorities investigate a multistate outbreak of infections associated with this product.

• The Fact: Walmart recalled spicy and mild pico de gallo presentations under the Freshness Guaranteed brand, distributed in states like Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wisconsin.

Trader Joe’s recalled its 11.1-ounce Fiesta Style Salad Shrimp product distributed in Texas, while Kroger included a spicy roast beef sandwich and two varieties of cheese dip.

Products distributed to Hannaford, Stop & Shop, Target, and Whole Foods were also included, with different UPC codes and best-by dates.

Taylor Fresh Foods indicated that it stopped sourcing from the producer related to the investigated jalapeños and stated that it will resort to alternative suppliers.

FDA and CDC Investigate Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Jalapeños

The FDA and CDC, along with state and local authorities, are investigating Salmonella cases related to fresh jalapeños supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors.

A producer located in Sinaloa, Mexico, which supplied the distributor, was identified as a possible source within the ongoing investigation.

Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, while certain individuals may face more severe complications.

Young children, older adults, people with weakened immune systems, and other vulnerable groups may have a higher risk of developing severe cases.

Which Products Should Consumers Check?

The included items are Walmart’s Spicy Pico de Gallo with UPC 681131276351 and Mild Pico de Gallo with UPC 681131276344, both with dates up to August 16.

At Trader Joe’s, the recall affects the Fiesta Style Salad Shrimp with UPC 000000818377 and dates between August 7 and August 12, 2026.

Kroger included the Private Selection Spicy Roast Beef Sandwich, UPC 011110678171, as well as spicy Jarlsberg and pepper dips marketed in several states.

Whole Foods also received various presentations of fresh salsa, pico de gallo, and red sauce distributed in Illinois and Texas.
