The mayor suggested that the death of corridos tumbados singer Chuy Montana, could be related to his music

Caballero Ramírez pointed out to the media that «that type of music generates a lot of violence,» according to El Sol de Tijuana.

She stated that, although the young man may not have been involved with organized crime, his songs could have been a reason for his murder.

«Probably the young man has nothing to do with it, but the lyrics incite violence from groups other than the one they are singing about,» said the mayor of Tijuana.

Montserrat Caballero Ramírez emphasized the need to investigate these events in depth.

“Certain singers or promoters would have to be investigated. We saw Fuerza Regida with a situation, it may be an isolated situation,» she said.

«But now it happens with a singer, so it is not very far from reality that some are involved in some criminal cells,» she emphasized.

«I believe that the Prosecutor’s Office and the state have to be very aware of them.»

She stressed the importance of the Prosecutor’s Office and the state being vigilant about the possible involvement of certain singers or promoters in criminal activities.

And not only in terms of concerts, but also regarding everything related to this musical genre.

The mayor also recalled the decision of the municipal council to prohibit bullfights.

She noted that this measure was taken due to concerns about the influence of these songs on society, reported the Tijuana Sun.

«I made that decision, the governor was very respectful of my decision, Rosarito was not like that because she has other ideas, which are respected, but this is up to the Prosecutor’s Office,» she stated.

According to local reports, the singer’s body was found on the Tijuana-Rosarito highway after he was kidnapped by an armed group.

Jesús Nolberto Cárdenas Velázquez, Chuy Montana’s real name, was 19 years old and had started his career on the streets of Tijuana.

The young man was singing at the border crossing with the United States at the San Ysidro checkpoint, EFE indicated.

Jesús Ortiz, vocalist of the regional Mexican group Fuerza Regida, promoted Montana’s career, recording several songs with him on his record label.

Corridos tumbados, a subgenre derived from the corrido, incorporate elements of urban music such as rap, hip-hop, trap and even reggaeton.

The lyrics are often explicit and refer to drug trafficking, robbery and the use of weapons.

Some users on Facebook commented: “I agree,” “The mayor is right.” “That music only incites violence.” “Let her work on insecurity in Tijuana better.”
