A Hispanic street vendor was brutally beaten in public in Los Angeles, in an incident that has generated outrage among residents and social media users demanding justice.
The victim, Arabelia Martínez, 62, was working at her food stand when a woman approached her and began a confrontation that ended in a violent attack.
The incident occurred in the area of Figueroa and 7th Street, where witnesses saw the attacker continue hitting the vendor even after she was already on the ground.
The attack was recorded on video and quickly went viral, causing a wave of reactions and support for the woman, who is known in the area for her dedication to her work.
Family denounces attack and racism
The victim’s son, Constantino García, publicly denounced what happened and explained that his mother was intimidated before being physically attacked by the aggressor.
“She approached my mother trying to intimidate her and extorted her for money,” he said, explaining that the woman demanded permits for her to be able to sell on the street.

According to his statement, the attacker also made offensive and discriminatory comments, including: “Go back to Mexico,” which has increased concerns about possible racist motives.

Arabelia Martínez herself spoke about what happened and described the emotional and physical impact left by the attack she suffered while working.
“I never thought in my life that I would go through these very difficult moments,” the woman said, as she continues recovering after the assault.
She added that she remains with faith and strength: “I am recovering, asking my dear God to give me strength and courage to continue with my children for a little more time.”

Massive support for Arabelia Martinez and demand for justice
The story has generated a wave of solidarity on social media, where thousands of people have expressed their support for the vendor and contributed to a donation campaign.
The GoFundMe fund created to help the family has surpassed $96,000, also boosted by public figures who shared the case and called for support for the victim.
“We are ready to support this vendor. It was a terrible, brutal situation,” influencer Carlos Eduardo Espina said while speaking out about what happened.
Meanwhile, authorities have condemned the attack and the family is demanding that the attacker be located and face legal consequences, in a case that has reignited the debate over violence and discrimination, reported CBS News.
