The relationship between President Donald Trump and some media outlets became tense again after journalist Kaitlan Collins responded to comments the president has made about her in recent months.
In addition, the CNN correspondent and chief White House correspondent addressed the criticism in a recent interview, where she reflected on the treatment she receives when asking questions during press conferences and official encounters.
Collins has become one of the journalists most frequently involved in exchanges with Trump, especially at events where the president faces questions on sensitive topics.
The journalist’s remarks come after several episodes in which the president publicly questioned her professional work in front of other reporters and television cameras.
Collins Attributes the Attacks to Her Questions
During the conversation, the journalist said she does not interpret the comments as strictly personal, but rather as a reaction to the questions she asks from the press room.
“I think it’s because he doesn’t like my questions in the press room. I don’t think it’s a personal reflection,” Collins explained when asked about the president’s remarks.

The journalist also said that other female reporters have experienced similar situations and considered that there is a noticeable difference in the way some women are treated during press briefings.
“I think in this term, people have started to notice the difference in his reaction when women like Mary Bruce or Nancy Cordes are asking the questions,” she said.
An Epstein Exchange Came Up Again
Collins also recalled an exchange that took place in the Oval Office when she tried to question the president about the Jeffrey Epstein case during a press appearance.
“In the 10 years you’ve covered me, I’ve never seen you smile,” was the response that, according to the journalist, she received from Trump during that conversation.
The journalist said the comment did not really answer the question being asked and reflected a dynamic that has repeated itself on several occasions.
“He wasn’t even really listening to the question,” Collins said when recalling that moment in front of journalists and officials present at the White House.
The Attacks Continued in Recent Weeks
The tensions did not end with that episode, and weeks later Trump again referred to the journalist during a briefing held before national media.
“CNN is a very corrupt organization, with a corrupt reporter standing right there,” the president said while pointing at Collins in front of other attendees.
The president also claimed that the reporter “never smiles” and said he perceived “hate in her eyes,” comments that generated reactions inside and outside the political sphere.
The situation reignited debate over the relationship between the president and the press, as well as the tone used by public officials toward journalists who ask uncomfortable questions.
A Debate That Goes Beyond One Journalist
Collins is not the only journalist who has had verbal confrontations with Trump during his public appearances and recent interviews.
Several female journalists have reported receiving dismissive comments or offensive labels while doing their work covering the White House.
Collins herself said she perceives differences between the president’s behavior in front of cameras and the interactions he has away from the media spotlight.
