Peruvian footballer José Hugo de la Cruz Meca died after being struck by lightning.
In addition to him, four other players from his team were injured, so they were taken to a hospital.
The referee had just suspended the match due to the ongoing thunderstorm.

According to a report by Lecturas.com, the match between Juventud Bellavista and Familia Chocca of Peru was taking place this Sunday.
The event was held at the Coto Coto Stadium in Huancayo, Peru.

José Hugo de la Cruz, 39 years old, fell to the ground along with his teammates due to the shockwave from the lightning strike.
Despite medical efforts, nothing more could be done to save his life.
Initially, it was believed that José Hugo de la Cruz had fainted, but that was not the case.
The other players were treated at the stadium before being transported to the hospital.
One of them, named Juan Chocca Llacta, is in critical condition with severe burns over much of his body.
His prognosis is currently uncertain. Although it takes a backseat, Juventud Bellavista was leading the match two goals to zero.
