U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that Washington and Tehran could reach a peace agreement during the coming weekend, although he acknowledged that the outcome of the negotiations remains uncertain.
The statements come as diplomatic efforts continue to end the conflict launched by the United States and Israel on February 28, in a context marked by recent military incidents and debate over Iran’s nuclear program.

According to EFE, during an event held in the Oval Office, Trump was asked by the media about the progress of talks with Iran.
The president said there is a possibility that both sides could reach an understanding in the coming days.
“If it happens — and it may not happen, who knows? — but if it happens, it could happen over the weekend,” he said.

The remarks reflect the status of negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement that would allow the conflict that began on February 28 to end.
Although the president expressed optimism, he also made clear that the final outcome is not yet guaranteed.
The talks continue as both sides evaluate different aspects of a possible peace plan.
Trump Downplays Incidents During the Truce
The president was also questioned about recent military exchanges that occurred during the bilateral truce in effect since April 8.
Among the incidents mentioned were ballistic missiles launched by Iran against targets in neighboring countries, including Kuwait’s airport.
The U.S. response was also addressed, including an attack on a military ground control station on Iran’s Qeshm Island.
Trump dismissed the idea that these episodes represented a breakdown of the ceasefire.
“There were some incidents, it was not a big deal, but we had it under control; we nipped it in the bud very quickly, just as the best military in the world does,” he said.
The president added that some observers might consider Iran’s actions a response to measures previously taken by the United States.
“Nevertheless, some people might argue that they were slightly provoked, given that we had taken a strong measure for a different reason. So, in a way, they were responding in kind,” he said.
Trump appeared to be referring to attacks on ships trying to reach Iranian ports.
Nuclear Program Remains the Main Obstacle
One of the central issues in the negotiations remains Iran’s nuclear program.
Trump had indicated last week that he would make a final decision on the draft presented by Iran for a possible peace agreement.
However, according to available information, the president returned the document to Tehran with modifications.
The amendments would be mainly related to the dismantling of the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.
In an interview published Wednesday, Trump said Iran has agreed not to develop nuclear weapons.
At the same time, he acknowledged that Iran’s position could change during the negotiation process.
The president said Tehran could “change its mind” regarding an agreement intended to end the war.
The talks will continue in the coming days as Washington and Tehran try to move closer on pending issues, especially those related to Iran’s nuclear program and the conditions for reaching a definitive Iran peace agreement.
