Hispanic Man Killed During ICE Operation in Maine Identified

The Colombian man who died during an operation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the state of Maine has been identified by local media as Joan Sebastian Guerrero, 26.
According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), agents were conducting surveillance related to an individual who had a final order of deportation. Officials said that when agents attempted to stop a vehicle leaving the location, the driver allegedly tried to flee, prompting an officer to open fire after determining there was a risk to public safety.
The DHS also stated that Guerrero was not the original target of the operation.
Witnesses Describe Dramatic ICE Shooting in Maine

Neighbors interviewed by local media said Guerrero’s wife and daughter were present at the scene during the incident.
Nelson Elías, who said he had known Guerrero since 2024, told CNN that he heard several gunshots before leaving his home and finding the young man lying on the ground.
Other residents, including Mary Hayes and Cecelia Humiston, also said they saw a young girl crying beside her father’s body. However, these accounts are based on witness statements collected by the press and have not been officially confirmed by authorities.
Organizations Demand Justice After the ICE Shooting in Maine

Immigrant rights organizations said Guerrero had authorization to work in the United States and called for a thorough investigation into the use of force during the operation.
Case Remains Under Investigation

The investigation is being led by the DHS Office of Inspector General, with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). In addition, the Maine Attorney General’s Office is conducting a parallel investigation to determine exactly what happened.
The ICE shooting in Maine has drawn national attention due to conflicting accounts between the official version of events and the testimony of neighbors who witnessed the operation.
