The alleged attacker shares his version
While being sought by authorities, Escalante released a video explaining his version of events.
“I celebrated my birthday last night, and it’s not true that I showed up shooting. I’ve never fired shots in my life. I’ve always kept a low profile,” he said on camera.
He claimed the conflict began due to an argument between Guasón Romero and his mother.
“My mom said ‘he crossed the line,’ that he tried to touch her. I don’t know how true that is. That’s when I reacted,” he stated.

Self-defense as the main argument in the Guasón Romero murder case
Escalante said he tried to remove the singer from the premises and that another confrontation occurred outside, according to reports from Univisión.
“He came running at me… and stabbed me here,” he said, showing a wound on his forearm.
“At that moment I went blind. Someone handed me a gun. I acted in self-defense and started shooting… I am deeply sorry,” he added.
The suspect stated he would turn himself in to “take responsibility for his actions,” and reports indicate he surrendered to police on April 13.
His defense team has indicated they will argue self-defense in the ongoing Guasón Romero murder case.
