Mexican Journalists Slam Alejandra Jaramillo: “I Don’t Believe a Word of It, Her Remorse Is Fake”

Rather than easing the controversy, several of the country’s best-known entertainment journalists described her message as a crude public relations strategy and a sign of disrespect toward the audience that has supported her career.

During the latest broadcast of the television program De Primera Mano, the discussion turned tense as the panel analyzed Jaramillo’s apology video.

The journalists agreed that the video—recorded in the privacy of her bedroom, without makeup, and featuring repeated religious references—lacked sincerity and appeared to be aimed solely at protecting her job in U.S. television amid a growing campaign calling for her dismissal.

Renowned entertainment journalist Gustavo Adolfo Infante was the first to voice his criticism.

The Imagen Televisión host argued that Alejandra Jaramillo’s previous behavior on social media reflected overwhelming arrogance that could not simply be erased with what he viewed as a supposedly spontaneous apology video.

Infante recalled the mocking tone Jaramillo used while celebrating Mexico’s loss to England, saying that her current statements lacked credibility.

«I didn’t understand anything she said, and I don’t believe any of it, because what she showed through her social media posts was pure arrogance and superiority. When she said, ‘Not even with men could they do it,’ and jumped with happiness… she wasn’t celebrating because she had English relatives; she was thrilled because Mexico got beaten. Don’t come and tell me, ‘I got carried away by the fans.’ And all that talk about God… I don’t believe it. You stained your reputation with Mexico, and there’s no going back.»

Using the word ‘mexicanitos’ is very derogatory and deserved a much more thoughtful and sensitive response.»

Meanwhile, Erika González and Lalo Carrillo stressed that the central issue was not celebrating a rival’s defeat or displaying passion for sports, but rather fueling hostility at a time when diplomatic relations between Mexico and Ecuador are already politically strained.

The commentators concluded that the apology video appeared to have been carefully rehearsed and prepared with the assistance of crisis management specialists.

With this united front, members of the Mexican entertainment press made it clear that, in their view, attributing the controversy to the «passion of football» is not enough, and that Alejandra Jaramillo’s relationship with much of the Mexican audience has been permanently damaged.
