The 2026 FIFA World Cup not only promises packed stadiums and millions of tourists across North America. It could also become a financial opportunity for thousands of families looking to earn extra income from home.

Airbnb announced a new incentive program aimed at attracting hosts ahead of the tournament and will offer up to $750 in additional payments to people who begin renting properties in host cities.

The platform says the World Cup will generate strong lodging demand in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, prompting the company to rapidly expand its accommodation supply before the world’s biggest sporting event.

  • Why it matters: The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the largest edition in tournament history and is expected to attract millions of visitors.

With the anticipated surge in travelers, Airbnb believes many people could benefit financially by renting their homes, rooms, or entire properties during the event.

Airbnb seeks new hosts for the 2026 World Cup

The company confirmed that it launched its most ambitious incentive program to date in order to attract new hosts across the 16 World Cup host cities.

According to Airbnb, lodging demand will grow significantly during the tournament, especially in cities hosting matches and related activities.

In addition to the tourism impact, the platform emphasized that more people are increasingly using short-term rentals as an alternative source of income amid rising living costs and economic pressure across North America.

Airbnb offers a $750 bonus for new hosts

The program includes a $750 payment for new hosts who list an entire home on Airbnb and welcome their first guests before July 31.

The incentive applies only to properties located in one of the 16 World Cup host cities across Canada, Mexico, and the United States, including Atlanta, New York City, Los Angeles, and Miami, among others.

Airbnb clarified that the payment is additional to earnings generated through bookings, meaning some hosts could potentially earn much more depending on location and demand during the tournament.

How Airbnb’s World Cup earnings calculator works

As part of its strategy to attract new users, Airbnb also launched a tool called the “Airbnb World Cup Calculator.”

The calculator allows property owners to enter their home address and receive a personalized estimate of how much money they could earn during the 2026 World Cup.

The company explained that the tool is designed to help residents quickly evaluate the financial potential of their properties before deciding to become hosts.

Many families say they would use the money to pay debts

Airbnb also shared survey results conducted by Focaldata among residents of host cities.

According to the study, nearly 90% of respondents said earning extra income through hosting would positively impact their current financial situation.

Among the top planned uses for the money were:

  • Paying debts (40%)
  • Covering living expenses (35%)
  • Home improvements (33%)

The results reflect how many families view the World Cup as a temporary opportunity to ease financial pressure or generate supplemental income.

Most accommodations cost less than $500 per night

The platform stated that, through the end of February, nearly 80% of available accommodations in host cities had an average nightly price below $500.

With this, Airbnb aims to highlight that options exist for different budgets and that temporary lodging could become a more flexible alternative to traditional hotels during the tournament.
