  • Possible bacterial contamination detected
  • Health risk warning issued

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall involving several bags of enoki mushrooms because of possible contamination with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.

The alert affects products distributed across multiple states in the country.

According to notices published by the FDA, laboratory samples tested positive for the presence of the bacteria.

The recall specifically involves two brands of enoki mushrooms sold in 150-gram bags.

The affected products include IQ Enoki Mushrooms identified with code “UI775.”

HH Fresh Trading Enoki Mushrooms with code “4711498860002” were also recalled.

Health authorities urged consumers not to eat these products.

They also recommended returning them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Products distributed in Florida and Texas

According to USA TODAY, the FDA reported that HH Fresh Trading enoki mushrooms were sold exclusively through local wholesalers in Florida and Texas.

So far, authorities have not specified how many products were distributed or whether any illnesses have been reported.

However, the recall was initiated after laboratory testing detected Listeria monocytogenes in product samples.

The bacteria can cause foodborne illness and poses a serious health risk to certain groups of people.
