Joe Biden says Putin is responsible for Azerbaijan Airlines crash

U.S. President Joe Biden stated on Saturday that he has not spoken with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, regarding the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) air disaster.
This tragedy killed 38 people and is «apparently» his responsibility.
Without admitting guilt, Putin apologized on Saturday to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for the «tragic incident» that occurred in Russian airspace.
Earlier, White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said on Friday that there are «preliminary indications» that the Azerbaijan Airlines flight was shot down.
Biden Believes Putin Is Responsible for the Kazakhstan Crash
«Apparently he did, but I haven’t spoken to him,» Biden replied when asked if Putin should take responsibility for the plane crash that occurred last Wednesday in Kazakhstan. The latest reports suggest that the cause of the crash, in which 29 people were also injured, may have been Russia’s air defense system. Both the United States and Ukraine have pointed to Russia’s possible involvement in the crash of the Azerbaijani plane.
Why Do They Suspect Putin?
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated, «Clear visual evidence at the impact point points to Russian responsibility for the tragedy.»
Meanwhile, John Kirby highlighted strong indications of Russia’s role.
«We’ve detected some signs pointing to the possibility that the plane might have been shot down by Russian air defense systems,» Kirby said.
The spokesperson referred to flight J2-8243, which crashed on December 25, 2024, near Aktau (Kazakhstan), killing 38 people, including 3 crew members, with 29 survivors.
