The administration of President Donald Trump is preparing a new strategy to expand immigration enforcement at workplaces with the goal of increasing the number of arrests of undocumented immigrants across the United States.

According to a CNN report, the plan calls for greater involvement from multiple federal agencies and aims to strengthen the efforts of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in industries that have historically employed large numbers of immigrant workers.

The new enforcement efforts are expected to focus on industries such as construction, agriculture, manufacturing, and healthcare services, where immigrant workers make up a significant portion of the labor force.

According to sources cited by CNN, the strategy is intended to strengthen immigration law enforcement while balancing the needs of the labor market.

In recent months, federal authorities have carried out several major immigration operations at workplaces.

Among them were arrests at a factory in South Carolina and an operation at a Hyundai plant in Georgia, where hundreds of people were taken into custody by federal agents.

The report also states that the administration has significantly increased the pace of immigration arrests.

According to data cited by The New York Times, ICE made approximately 10,000 arrests over a five-day period in late June, averaging nearly 2,000 arrests per day.

According to that reporting, the agency has shifted from conducting large, highly publicized raids in specific cities to carrying out more discreet operations across multiple regions of the country.

The Department of Homeland Security said the enforcement actions are intended to carry out the federal government’s immigration policy by focusing on people who are in the United States without authorization and who, according to the department, are considered enforcement priorities.

At the same time, the strategy also includes increased oversight of employers to verify compliance with hiring regulations and identify potential violations during workplace inspections.
