The “miracle lawyer” accused of deceiving thousands of immigrants

Thousands of immigrants seeking to legalize their status in the United States say they were allegedly victims of a fraud scheme led by attorney Alexandra Lozano, who faces civil lawsuits and investigations over alleged irregularities in humanitarian visa applications, according to a report published by Telemundo.
She promised a path toward residency
Lozano offered clients the possibility of obtaining legal status through visas designed for victims of domestic violence or human trafficking.
However, several former clients claim that the law firm submitted applications containing false abuse stories without them knowing the contents of the documents provided to immigration authorities.
Thousands of cases under investigation
According to Telemundo, the attorney’s name appears in more than 53,000 pending immigration cases, a number that has drawn attention from authorities.
The Washington State Bar Association filed disciplinary charges against her, and Lozano voluntarily surrendered her license to practice law while investigations continue.
In addition, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is conducting an investigation related to the case.

The Telemundo report includes testimonies from immigrants who say they paid between $30,000 and $32,000 for the firm’s services.
Some claim that years later they discovered their files contained false accusations against relatives or employers, a situation that now exposes them to deportation proceedings.
Allegations of unlicensed workers being used
The lawsuits also allege that the firm used workers in Colombia, Mexico, and Argentina to provide legal assistance and prepare applications, despite not being licensed to practice law in the United States.
Former employees claimed they received instructions to exaggerate or create abuse stories in order to increase the chances of approval for humanitarian visas.

Through her attorney, Alexandra Lozano denied committing fraud.
According to statements reported in the case, her defense argues that clients reviewed and signed the applications before they were submitted and that each applicant was responsible for the accuracy of the information included in the forms.
Fear among thousands of immigrants
After the law firm closed, hundreds of former clients are seeking to recover their files to determine what information was submitted to immigration authorities.
Attorneys now representing several affected individuals warn that some immigrants may have lost legitimate opportunities to obtain legal status due to the alleged irregularities found in their cases.
