President Donald Trump stated that athletes wishing to compete in the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles will be subject to testing to prevent the participation of transgender competitors.

During a press conference on August 5, Trump was asked about the possibility of applying genetic testing to transgender athletes.

He responded, “There will be a very, very strong form of testing, and if the test does not come out appropriately, they will not be in the Olympic Games.”

This comment comes after a series of measures adopted by the president regarding transgender athletes.

In February, Trump signed an executive order banning transgender student athletes from participating in women’s sports.

As a result, the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) amended its rules to prevent the participation of transgender women in sports, aligning with the Trump administration’s policy.

USOPC President Gene Sykes and CEO Sarah Hirshland justified the change in a letter addressed to the Olympic community.

The letter stated that the policy update followed “a series of respectful and constructive conversations with federal officials” after Trump’s executive order.

Additionally, on August 4, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services issued a new policy guideline, according to USA Today.

This policy prevents transgender women from receiving “extraordinary ability” visas to compete in women’s sports.

It marks a new chapter in the ongoing controversy surrounding the inclusion of transgender athletes in sports.

Trump also signed an executive order to create a White House task force in charge of organizing security and other logistical aspects related to the 2028 Olympic Games.
