An interview between President Donald Trump and host Kristen Welker ended abruptly after a tense exchange over California’s primary elections and the voter fraud allegations raised by the president.

The confrontation took place during an interview for NBC’s Meet the Press, one of the most influential political programs on U.S. television.

The Discussion Began With California’s Elections

According to USA TODAY, the exchange occurred while Trump was visiting Wisconsin, a state considered key for both parties and one he won in the 2024 election.

The conversation focused on the primary elections held in California on June 2.

During the interview, Welker noted that Republicans had achieved favorable results in some races within the state.

Trump responded by saying Republicans were losing ground because of what he described as a “rigged election.”

The discussion centered on California’s vote-counting process, which usually extends for several days after Election Day.

Republicans have criticized the length of this procedure.

Among the races being watched are the contests for mayor of Los Angeles and governor of California.

In both cases, Republican candidates were in second place while Democratic contenders advanced in the count.

California uses a system known as a “jungle primary,” in which all candidates compete on the same ballot and the two candidates with the most votes advance to the general election.

Welker Asked for Evidence and the Tension Increased

During the interview, Welker explained that the counting process being observed corresponds to the system usually used in California.

Trump responded by asking why it is done that way.

According to the president, the reason would be that “they are cheating in the elections.”

The journalist then asked whether he had evidence to support his claims.

Trump replied that he only had to look and listen to people.

Welker insisted on requesting concrete evidence of election fraud.

She also reiterated that vote counting over several days is part of California’s standard procedure.

Trump questioned whether it was appropriate to continue counting votes five days after the election.

The host replied that state officials have said they are working to speed up the process, although they acknowledge that the count takes time.

That was when the conversation became more confrontational.

Trump accused Welker and the press of being corrupt.

The journalist rejected those claims.

The president maintained that the questions asked during the interview favored certain positions.

Trump Decided to End the NBC Interview

As Welker tried to continue the conversation, Trump raised the tone of his criticism.

He also directed comments at other media outlets, including ABC, CBS, and CNN.

The president then ended the interview.

According to the footage released, he removed the microphone and said he had had enough.

“I’m sorry. Let’s end it because I’ve had enough,” he said.

Trump also recalled that he had spent a long period standing in the rain while the interview was taking place.

When Welker noted that she had traveled to Wisconsin for the conversation, the president replied that he had already given her enough time.

After the program aired, the host explained from the Washington studio that she had spoken with Trump a day before the interview.

She also said they had discussed the difficulties caused by the weather conditions.

Welker added that the president agreed to grant her another interview in the future.

Although the encounter ended abruptly, the host said there is a commitment to conduct a new interview with the president at a later date.
