  • Trump Seeks Countries for Deported Migrants
  • This is part of his plan for mass deportations.
  • Here are the details.

Donald Trump’s future border czar, Tom Homan, announced that he is in talks with third-party countries to deport migrants whose home countries refuse to take them back.

This plan is a key part of Trump’s proposal to carry out what he has called «the largest deportation in U.S. history.»

One of the main complications of this strategy is determining what to do with migrants whose home countries refuse to accept them.

In an interview with DailyMail.com, Homan stated that he has already started negotiations to find alternative countries willing to accept these individuals.

«I’m not waiting until January 20 (Trump’s inauguration day). We’re already having discussions. We’ll find a third country,» Homan said.

Although he didn’t reveal which countries he is negotiating with to accept deported migrants, previous reports have mentioned places such as the Turks and Caicos Islands, Panama, Grenada, and the Bahamas.

However, the Bahamas has already ruled out this possibility, according to DailyMail reports.

Meanwhile, Guatemala has shown some openness, according to recent statements to Reuters.

A plan inspired by the British model

The idea of using third-party countries is inspired by the British model, which aimed to send migrants to Rwanda.

However, that plan faced numerous legal challenges and was eventually abandoned by Keir Starmer’s Labour government.

In the U.S., a similar proposal during Donald Trump’s administration in 2019 was challenged by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and other human rights groups.

They argued that sending vulnerable people to unknown countries put them at risk.

Donald Trump’s immigration priorities

Homan, the former acting head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during Donald Trump’s first term, outlined three priorities that the former president has entrusted him with:

  • Secure the border.
  • Launch a massive deportation operation.
  • Locate nearly 300,000 unaccompanied minors who, according to him, are missing in the U.S.

«Everything will change on January 20,» Homan stated during a meeting with donors and supporters in Naples, Florida.

Logistical and budgetary challenges

Homan acknowledged that such a large operation would face logistical challenges, particularly due to the lack of adequate detention centers.

He explained that each detained migrant must remain in custody for a period that can range from a few days to several weeks while travel documents and authorization for their return are processed.

He also pointed out that significant funding from Congress would be needed to finance the expansion of facilities and operational costs.

According to Homan, the $86 billion figure previously proposed in Congress would be an adequate starting point.

«The American people made it clear in November that they want this to happen. So make it happen. Give us the money we need,» Homan said, as he doubles his efforts to find third countries that will accept deported migrants.

Expectations and next steps

Donald Trump’s administration expects Congress to act quickly to approve the necessary funds to implement this plan.

In the meantime, Homan will continue negotiations to secure agreements with third-party countries.

The proposal continues to generate controversy and is expected to face opposition from human rights advocacy groups, as well as legal challenges during its implementation.
