According to USATODAY, President Donald Trump stated that he received a congratulatory call from his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on the morning of June 14.

The official reason was Trump’s 79th birthday, but according to him, the real focus of the conversation was the conflict between Iran and Israel.

«Putin called me this morning to wish me a happy birthday,» Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.

However, he emphasized that “more importantly,” they discussed Iran and the urgency of ending the war.

Trump Calls for End to the War

Trump said the call with Putin lasted nearly an hour and centered on the recent attacks in the Middle East.

«Putin feels, like I do, that this war between Israel and Iran must end,» the president declared.

In his post, he also mentioned telling Putin that “his war must end too,” referring to the invasion of Ukraine.

«We’ll deal with that next week,» he wrote on Truth Social.

Trump’s close relationship with Putin contrasts with President Joe Biden’s firm stance against the Kremlin.

Biden has led global efforts to sanction Russia following its 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

Trump and Putin on the Middle East

According to international media, on June 13 Israel attacked nuclear facilities in Iran, triggering a harsh response.

Iran launched three waves of missiles in retaliation, as Israeli citizens took shelter in air-raid bunkers.

Many world leaders have expressed concern over a potential regional escalation.

Trump Knew of Israeli Plans

From Moscow, Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov confirmed that the call between Trump and Putin did take place.

«Putin condemned Israel’s military operation and expressed serious concern,» Ushakov told Russian media.

He also stated that both leaders are open to resuming negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program.

According to Ushakov, Trump called the recent events in the Middle East “very alarming.”

Trump and Putin Still Seek a Deal

The U.S. president also shared sensitive information in an interview with Reuters.

He said that his administration had prior knowledge of Israel’s plans to attack Iran.

Trump claimed he had given Iran a 60-day deadline to accept a new nuclear agreement with the United States.

«Israel attacked on day 61,» he stated, suggesting that the failure to reach an agreement triggered the strike.

Trump’s Controversial Stance on Iran

He added that he had tried to prevent Iran from suffering “humiliation and death” through a negotiated solution.

«I would have loved to see a deal,» Trump said. «They can still reach one. It’s not too late.»

Trump’s statements raise concerns.

The call with Putin—and the way he describes it—could fuel criticism about his closeness with authoritarian leaders.

Trump and Putin, Global Flashpoints

Throughout his term, Trump faced accusations of being soft on the Kremlin, especially after the 2016 election interference.

This new interaction, amid an active war between Russia and Ukraine, reignites the debate over his foreign policy.

It also raises questions about the type of diplomacy he will continue practicing.

Meanwhile, the conflict between Israel and Iran continues to escalate, with unpredictable consequences for the region.
