The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency is facing renewed criticism following alarming accusations from families of minors detained at a facility in South Texas, where children are allegedly being held without food, water, or basic care while under federal custody.
According to a report by Univision Noticias, relatives claim their children are being held in inhumane conditions.
The detention center, reopened by President Donald Trump, is located in southern Texas and has resumed operations despite previous controversy over alleged human rights abuses.

Families reported that the children lack regular access to clean drinking water and adequate meals, according to Univision.
Some minors allegedly go hours without receiving liquids, while others have begun showing signs of dehydration and exhaustion.

Parents also said the children do not have access to any recreational or educational activities, worsening their isolation and emotional distress.
Days reportedly pass without games, classes, or opportunities to learn or play, deepening the sense of confinement.
Psychological and Medical Impact of Child Detention Conditions in ICE Texas Centers
The most distressing accounts come directly from the children themselves.
Some described siblings who are depressed, crying through the night, and repeatedly asking to go home. These accounts suggest severe emotional deterioration linked to confinement conditions and lack of care.
Sergio Pérez, executive director of the Center for Human Rights and the Constitution, told Univision that ICE is detaining children with serious health conditions, including autism and leukemia, without providing the specialized medical attention they require.
According to Pérez, “Both the children and their families are being subjected to severe trauma,” warning that the psychological harm could have lasting consequences.
Public Outcry and Growing Concern
The allegations have multiplied in recent days, prompting human rights organizations to demand an immediate investigation into conditions at ICE-run facilities.
The reopening of this center under Trump’s administration has reignited debate over the detention of migrant children in the United States and the lack of transparency surrounding their treatment.
Meanwhile, families continue to issue urgent pleas for the children’s release or transfer to appropriate facilities where they can receive medical care, nutrition, and education.
The case has generated widespread outrage both nationally and internationally, with advocacy groups warning that ICE may be violating U.S. law and international child protection treaties.
